One of those injured in the explosion at the Guayos parties dies after eleven days in critical condition

Arniel Díaz Pacheco, a resident of the La Loma neighborhood, died this Wednesday due to serious burns suffered during the pyrotechnic explosion on November 15.

MADRID, Spain.- Arniel Díaz Pacheco, one of the nine injured in the explosion that occurred in the Parrandas de Guayos, Sancti Spíritus, on November 15, died this Wednesday after eleven days in critical condition. The news was confirmed by family and friends on social networks, who had reported on the severity of his burns since the beginning of the accident.

The explosion took place in the area of fireworks from the La Loma neighborhood, when a mortar bag was accidentally detonated during the opening of the festival. The explosion caused injuries of various degrees to nine people, including Díaz Pacheco, who suffered high-grade burns and multiple trauma.

From the first moment, residents of Guayos and participants in the party tradition expressed their concern about the young man’s condition. With his death, the La Loma neighborhood declared mourning and various publications on social networks reflected the magnitude of the community impact.

“Guayos is in mourning, Barrio La Loma is in mourning,” wrote a friend of the deceased, lamenting the loss and sending condolences to the family.

A local voice, Ismail Hernandez, In a lengthy message, he recalled the tragedy of December 2, 1987, when a similar explosion left nine young people dead during partying. Hernández described the atmosphere of sadness that the town is experiencing again and conveyed his condolences “on behalf of the Parrandera Community of North Central Cuba.”

Las Parrandas de Guayos, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage, celebrated its centenary this year. The festival was initially in doubt due to the economic and health situation in the country, but it was finally authorized to take place.

Authorities have so far not provided updated details about the ongoing investigation. According to previous reports, the Ministry of the Interior opened a process to clarify the causes of the accident and determine responsibilities related to the handling of pyrotechnics, although so far they have not provided an update on the matter.

The Guayense community continues to express condolences to the Pacheco family, who faces a new tragedy linked to the parrandas. On social networks, friends and neighbors insist on the need for stricter security measures to prevent events like this from happening again.
