Agreement between Correo and INDA will guarantee logistics in food distribution nationwide
The Uruguayan Post Office and the National Food Institute (INDA) signed an inter-institutional agreement whose objective is to ensure a quality logistics service in the transportation of food to all parts of the country.
The food security of Uruguayans is a “national cause”, for which “We have to work a lot from different places,” said the Minister of Social Development, Gonzalo Civila, during the signing of the agreement that will guarantee the arrival of food to the different INDA devices through the services of El Correo Uruguayo.
In that sense, Civila valued this agreement because it will help many families improve their food standards. “This has to do with the fight for equality and social justice,” he stressed.
Civila participated in the ceremony with the president of INDA, Micaela Melgar; the president of the Post Office, Gabriel Bonfrisco; and the Undersecretary of Industry, Energy and Mining, Eugenia Villar.
Melgar, for his part, reported that after five months this agreement was reached that brings together actions of the two organizations in an articulated and efficient manner.
He reported that, under his administration, public purchases will be expanded to family production and national industries and to cooperative production models.
In that sense, he mentioned that the agreement signed on the day meets the first challenge set out to reach more places, mainly those that have access difficulties.
Secondly, he added that another objective sought is to diversify access to more products in such a way that it does not imply losing their quality when transporting them, especially in the case of fruits and vegetables.
In turn, Bonfrisco explained that the agreement complements and reinforces work that is already being carried out between both institutions, which is based on achieving food sovereignty for Uruguayans. “Reaching every home will be our reason for being,” he stressed.
