Deputy Gamarra will insist on the issue of a fire station for Aceguá

The interim term of the leader of List 16 of the National Party in the House of Representatives is coming to an end.

It was an intense month for the former Mayor of Cerro Largo who in a few months went from a purely executive role to a legislative one in the National Parliament where, without a doubt, times are different.

Fernando Gamarra presented a minute linked to the installation of a Fire Station in the Municipality of Aceguá, a dream in which the late Mayor Javier Rodríguez worked tirelessly.

“It was a very eventful month, with very important issues on the table. We were there to raise concerns, trying to defend the department on issues that are talked about on every corner today, such as border issues.” stated during the live interview of THE PROFESSIONAL Radio this Thursday, November 27.

“I presented a written document saying that the Fire Station has to be installed and I am going to fight every day until this happens, which does not mean that it will be installed” he pointed out. “That is the spring of the Executive Branch” he remembered. “Yes, we are going to continue fighting to make this happen.” he insisted.

Gamarra manages a plan B, an alternative solution to the issue, with the intention that Aceguá has a fire service because it has been proven that it is very necessary. In recent days, two ravenous fires affected well-known businesses in the town.

“This other possibility may perhaps be much more viable for the National Government. We believe that the existing Ministry of Defense Barracks could be used as a base. It is possible that 4 or 5 personnel can be prepared, who have a truck, also involving some volunteers, obviously all under the supervision of a career Firefighter” raised the National Party Deputy.

“It is an alternative that we have been thinking about, that we are managing and that we are going to refine in these days” he committed.

“I am not the one who decides, that is the power of the Executive Branch, but it is clear that all political actors here agree on this need” he stated.

“Afterwards, Firefighters have been requested for Plácido Rosas and for Laguna. That’s fine, but let’s not forget that Laguna is 20 kilometers from Río Branco, while Aceguá is 60 kilometers from the closest Detachment, which is Melo. In addition, together with Noblía it has a population of about 7,000 inhabitants, plus the Brazilian side.” the Legislator founded.

“It seems to us that it is a priority, beyond that it would be spectacular if there were in all the population centers where there are Local Governments or circuits with 3 or 4 Municipalities that are close to cover that need” express.

“Little by little you have to try to get the issues to come out” said.

“We have to start thinking and preparing for the occurrence of different climatic events: floods, droughts, low and high temperatures. We have to be prepared for climate change” he warned.

“The Fire Station for Aceguá was a dream of El Cabeza –Javier Rodríguez- and the townspeople. He, as Mayor, took pride in this, fought for it and could not see it come true.” lament.

Fernando Gamarra recalled that in the previous period all the required documentation was sent to the Ministry of the Interior with the land on loan, even with the commitment of the Brazilian authorities to provide the materials. “Everything was here: land and materials, but the will of the Ministry of the Interior was lacking back in 2022 and 2023 to move forward with the initiative” hill.
