Drop in jobs

The Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, credited the drop in the number of vacancies to the Central Bank’s interest policywhich maintained the economy’s basic interest rate, the Selic. The rate, which was 10.5% per year until September last year, was raised to 15% per year.

“I have been drawing attention since May or June to the need for the Central Bank, which has the need to monitor and make decisions to increase, maintain or decrease the Selic rate, to look carefully, as the economy would enter a process of deceleration. The problem is that if you slow down, at some point the car will stop”, he pointed out.

According to him, it is time for the Central Bank to take measures in relation to monitoring interest rates.

“There is a great understanding that this is inhibiting the pace of investments. There are committed investments by companies that are slowing down due to interest rates. It is more than urgent time for the Central Bank to have the sensitivity to understand that this process is necessary [de diminuição dos juros]”, he added.
