General Huertas and a DNI director are under disciplinary action for alleged exchanges with dissidents.
He Attorney General, Gregorio Eljachpointed out that the Attorney’s Office is considering the provisional suspension of the General Juan Miguel Huertasthe Army, and Wilmar Mejiaintelligence director of the IDwhile the investigation into the case known as the Calarca archives. He said the decision depends on the documentation and evidence that is being collected.
During a statement to the media, Eljach pointed out that the Attorney General’s Office must act based on verifiable facts. “It seems that they were, let’s say, trafficking in informationwhich apparently is evident in the tests, even information that can end in the death of police officers“, he said, although he clarified that “all of that is presumptions, hypotheses, assumptions”.
The head of the Public Ministry stressed that for now no decision has been made on provisional suspension. According to him, this measure only applies when the precise requirements within the file.
“The procedural possibilities are, because that is a proper figure to protect the good success of the investigations“, he stated. He added that, if the legal conditions“they are decisions that we are going to make at the time.”
Eljach explained that those investigated are still active because the process has just begun. “Yes, they are still in office because we are in the initial part of the disciplinary inquiry “which began a few hours after the information became known,” he said.

He also indicated that the Attorney General’s Office is waiting for documentation that allows formally establishing the condition of public servants involved: “We are waiting for answers, to demonstrate the status of public servants that cannot be assumed and, to the extent that this documentation arrives, the decisions will be adjusted.”
Regarding the seriousness of the facts revealed, he recalled that the conduct attributed to the officials has public and political repercussions. In that sense he warned: “As they are public servants and the conduct has caused a lot of social and political alarmwe are going to consider it severely for the assessment at the time.”
The Attorney General also confirmed that the entity assumed the preferential power from the first moment. “It was preferential because we were the first. They have to behave Public Ministry. We don’t have to ask him for anything,” he said.

The documents, chats and phones seized from the structures of alias Calarca point to a scheme of exchange of sensitive information that would involve General Juan Miguel Huertas and to director Wilmar Mejía as direct channels with the armed group.
The journalistic investigation detailed meetings, movements of members of the criminal organization in official vehicles and plans to create security front companies. It also included references to a foreign businessman who would have visited guerrilla camps in Catatumbo to discuss illegal arms and gold deals.

All this material is in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office from July 2024when a caravan with dissident leaders, accompanied by members of the National Protection Unitwas detained at an Army checkpoint in Anori, Antioquia.
However, since then no procedural progresswhich generated a cascade of criticism towards the Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo.
He institutional silence has fueled a national debate about the lack of action. In social networks and in political sectors the resignation of prosecutor Camargo and of Presidentarguing that it is necessary to allow a research without interference.
