The practicing adventure sports is common among national and foreign tourists who come to the city of CuscoHowever, going outdoors during the rainy season is something that the authorities have asked to avoid due to lightning strikes in different areas.
One of these phenomena ended the life of a foreign tourist, leaving his companion injured and a third person with serious injuries.
The event occurred last Wednesday afternoon in the vicinity of the Ocoruro pass, belonging to the Chimpahuaylla sector in the province of Paruro, where a group of visitors was doing dowhilling on bicycles.
At the site, the group would have endured up to two lightning strikes, with a 37-year-old tourist being the one who bore the brunt, losing his life at the site.
Subsequently, the Police were able to rescue the person identified as James Fernández (41), a US citizen who was seriously affected, who was emergency evacuated along with a third person who would be a native of Peru.
“He injured was evacuated to the Regional Hospital of Cuscowhere he remains under observation with the following medical diagnosis, cervical vertebromedullary fracture and electrical burns. During the intervention, police personnel also confirmed the presence of an unidentified male, who was without vital signs and lying next to a light blue bicycle. The body had sports clothing and equipment used for mountain biking,” they cited from the Police.
The unfortunate event was communicated to the representative of the Public Ministry, and police personnel from the Yaurisque Police Station, who continue the corresponding proceedings in accordance with the law.
