Stroke detection

In relation to the issue of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), reported that for the first time they are developing a plan that includes a massive campaign so that people know the common symptoms of this disease, which is consolidated as the second cause of death in the country.

He announced that for the first time he made an agreement with the Alliance for Formal Stroke Treatment and they are developing a plan in the HCabral y Báez de Santiago hospital, declared “champion”, in rapid diagnostic management. As part of this achievement, they have about seven centers to develop the stroke plan, and in this dynamic they will train more specialists and for the first time they established ten high-speed tomographs in multiple centers, with 28 slices to quickly diagnose and create an image network throughout the country.

José Luis Corripio Estrada, Víctor Atallah, José P. Monegro, Yudelka Batista and Eladio Pérez during the Weekly Lunch.

Together they promote the Trauma Network, an initiative that will reduce treatment time, because, as in heart attacks, every minute counts.

“We are going to ensure that the ACV, which is highly disabling, has a solution in our country; we make international agreements for the advanced treatment and using advanced centers to reproduce that stroke network,” he said.

Atallah spoke when participating in the Corripio Communications Group Weekly Lunch together with the vice ministers of Collective Health, Eladio Pérez; Yudelka Batista, of Strengthening and Development of the Health Sector; Gina Estrella, from Risk Management and Disaster Response, and the director of the Cabinet, Alan Estévez.

He stated that taking office as minister he proposed to integrate all the actions of the public and private sectors under a strategic plan, so that everyone works hand in hand in an action focused on the citizen and that translates into well-being.

Hence, in each council of ministers, efforts are made to add more years of life to the population, based on two foundations: life course (from each stage until death) and health, which is comprehensive and its environment.

Zero dengue

Regarding mortality due to dengue, he said that when they took over 2024 did so with an outbreak of that disease and an increase of 300% was expected.

However, they began a silent plan that allowed them to quickly drop to 70% through a cleanup campaign that included a page on the topic in the school curriculum, managing to decrease 67% in 2024 and 80% this year, and for the first time zero deaths until November 26, compared to the region.

These results recently brought him to Washington for a talk at the World Congress of Public Health to present the data on why they had the best experience. Everything was based on the fact that they involved the community in the scrapping actions.

They made a comprehensive control map of the actions in places where they saw that no results were seen and they involved neighborhood associations and provided education to ensure that vector-controlled diseases are not an emergency call.

It also meant that the IDB is preparing to announce that the country has the best results in the management of malaria, which reflects that work is being done, and regardless of the gaps, improvements are being made in the most common non-communicable chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
