Four people died and 13 injured is the preliminary balance of a tragic road accident that occurred this Wednesday, November 26, at the intersection of Florencio Jiménez Avenue, right in the El Tostado sector of the city of Barquisimeto, capital of the Lara state.
The unfortunate consequence was the result of a collision between a heavy-duty vehicle (gandola) that apparently ran out of brakes, impacting the public transport bus and another small vehicle.
The accident occurred on a fairly fluid communication route with the transit of vehicles and people because it is in a direct connection to Quibor, Jiménez municipality, which connects with Lara-Zulia (Maracaibo).
The injured people were approximately thirteen; nine adults with multiple multiple traumas and four adolescents in the same conditions of physical impact, this group was admitted to the IVSS “Dr. Pastor Oropeza” hospital, one of the health centers closest to the scene of the road accident.
It was learned that the public transport bus was transporting passengers to the western sectors of Barquisimeto such as Villa Productiva, Pueblo Nuevo, La Batalla, El Bolívar and, among others, El Tostao.
It emerged from eyewitnesses and members of the rescue organizations at the scene that the driver of the truck (heavy cargo truck) ignored the traffic light indication.
Another witness alleged that the heavy-duty truck was coming from a west-east direction at a moderate speed and, at the time of impact, the three vehicles involved had a green light, both for the crossing towards El Tostao and for the cargo vehicle.
According to this story, the bus driver, upon seeing what was happening, tried to accelerate, but the truck hit him from the rear, causing people to leave the unit and, unfortunately, the truck ran over them. This witness reported seeing around four dead people and the rest injured.
Marena Bastidas, president of Línea La Fundación, corroborated the version of the collision of the heavy transport against the mass transport unit just after passing the El Tostado intersection, highlighting the concern over the large number of injuries and deaths.
