United States Secretary of Defense meets with Luis Abinader in the Dominican Republic

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegsethcame to Dominican Republic at 1:19 in the afternoon and the National Palace for a meeting with the president of the Republic, Luis Abinader.

Hegseth arrived in the country through the terminal Las Americas International Airport where he held a brief meeting with personnel from the United States Embassy.

Hegseth’s visit takes place amid an increase in military activity American in the Caribbean. Since August, Washington execute the operationSouthern Spear”, a naval offensive aimed at intercepting vessels used to transport cocaine, fentanyl and other illicit substances to the region.

It was announced that in the meeting with President Abinader, the agenda will include the review of maritime surveillance systems, the exchange of intelligence and the analysis of the routes used by criminal organizations for the drug traffic towards North America.
