They launch the #NoMeOlvides campaign to make disappearances in Cuba visible

Alas Tensas and Yo Sí Te Creo in Cuba undertook an initiative that seeks to promote a citizen network in the face of the growing crisis of disappearances on the Island.

MADRID, Spain.- The Gender Observatory of Tense Wings (OGAT), in collaboration with Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba (YSTCC), launched this November 25th the #ForgetMeNot campaignan initiative aimed at making visible and generating citizen awareness about missing persons in Cuba, with special emphasis on women and girls. The action coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a date on which both observatories reiterate the urgency of addressing a growing and structural problem.

The campaign will run until December 10, in the context of the so-called 16 orange days against violence. During this period, the organizations will disseminate information content, alerts and support materials aimed at strengthening the search for missing persons and accompany families who face an environment marked by the lack of resources and the criminalization of civil society.

In his official statement, Tense Wings remember that it began documenting disappearances in 2024, after identifying a direct relationship between these cases and femicides: several of the women reported missing ended up being found murdered. Since then, research by both observatories has allowed them to confirm that these disappearances also affect men and present their own dynamics that require specific attention.

“In a country where there are no search protocols or support for families, it is essential to build a citizen support network that shares alerts and collaborates in locating missing people,” warn the organizations, which emphasize that their registry is not exhaustive, due to resource limitations and the persecution of independent work.

A record that shows a structural crisis

In November 2025, OGAT records 22 active disappearance alerts. Of them, 16 correspond to cases documented between 2024 and 2025, while another six are disappearances from previous years that the observatory has recovered for dissemination during the campaign.

The people on active alert are: Esperanza Cabrera Melvin, Amarilis Muñiz Navarrete, Lali Paola Moliner, Karildi Caridad Marín, Maydeleisis Rosales, Damaris Ricardo Frómetas, Beisy Moraima Pedroso Ramírez, Jianis Sánchez Páez, Felicia Gómez Díaz, Claudia Cárdenas, Mabel García Corrales, Esther Pau Alfonso, María Karla Quiala, Leonor Isaac Campos “Nori”, Doraiky Águila Vázquez, Maileivys Martín, Noguella Lezcano, Alicia María Montes de Oca, Yanara Fernández Méndez, Roberto Torres Zoza, Balbino Lombillo and Rafael Vice Cans.

The coordinator of OGAT, Yanelys Núñez, points out that #NoMeOlvides arises from “the lack of citizen protection and the desolation of families,” who face the absence of official tools, public records and institutional networks. In this context, complaints on social networks have become the only way to activate alerts.

As a closing of the campaign, OGAT announced a vigil in Madrid on December 8, 2025, whose time and location will be communicated on its social networks during the previous week. The initiative seeks to pay tribute to missing people and support the demand for justice and visibility for their families.
