MPF sues truck drivers who blocked Via Dutra in 2022

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) opened proceedings against five people and two transport companies for blocking the Presidente Dutra Highway (BR-116) on October 31st and November 2nd, 2022, protesting against the result of the election for President of the Republic. The action requests the payment of compensation for collective moral damages.MPF sues truck drivers who blocked Via Dutra in 2022

“The interruption of the flow, in acts carried out on October 31 and November 2 of that year, brought severe consequences and, therefore, requires that the defendants be sentenced to pay compensation for collective moral damages”, informs the MPF.

The compensation requested varies from R$5,000 to R$40,000 per defendant.

The targets of the action are leaders of the mobilization, which blocked traffic around the Henrique Lage do Vale do Paraíba Refinery (Revap), in São José dos Campos, in 2022. Two people were also involved in other blockades, carried out in the same region in March 2021, when acts of vandalism and damage to vehicles also occurred.

“Such consequences transcend mere individual inconvenience, configuring a severe attack on public order and the national economy”, justified Federal Attorney Fernando Lacerda Dias, author of the action, for whom “such a situation generates mass frustration, a feeling of insecurity and social instability, by demonstrating the vulnerability of the logistics infrastructure in the face of illegal acts.”

The action is being processed in the 3rd Federal Court of São José dos Campos.
