The US ensures that there is "no active conversation" about importing oil from Venezuela

The White House made it clear on Monday that US plans to import oil from Venezuela are not currently on the negotiating table.

When asked about conversations for strengthen the energy sector US – negotiating with the government of President Nicolás Maduro – the spokeswoman for the White House, Jen Psaki, said at a press conference that “it is not an active conversation at this time.”

Last week, after the visit of key officials of the Biden Administration to Caracas and in the face of questions about a possible change of course in the policy towards Maduro, Psaki stated that one of the interests of the trip was to discuss, among other issues, “the energy security” in the face of the current economic situation caused by Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Following the visit of White House officials to Venezuela, two Americans were released.

This Monday, Psaki assured that the Democratic administration continues in conversation with various producers globally.

“It’s not just about supply. [de petróleo] to the United States, but also in international markets,” he said.
