More than 300 children and young people cared for in Social Work
The Welfare Project aimed with greater emphasis this year to monitor those who graduate from the Youth Center, attending to their student reintegration or insertion into the labor market.
In addition to families, more than 300 children and young people pass through the facilities of the Obra Social Salesiana Picapiedras every day.
“We not only want this to be bricks, but for there to be an interesting proposal for the little ones that allows families to trust us so that their children can follow a path that goes from the CAIF, Children’s Club and Youth Center, now with this Youth Project, with the involvement of Community References” held the Professor Martín Álvarez.
“The idea, when the building projections were made because we were serving the children in very small and poorly lit spaces, was to look for a leap in quality in the proposal. We have advanced, beyond what still remains because everything can be perfected and reality is changing, but we are taking steps together with the Educators in a positive way” broad.
Surely a request will soon be made to the INAU authorities to expand the space in the Youth Center to satisfy the demand that arises from the graduation of the Children’s Club. “We have an agreement for 65 young people, so not all of them can enter, that leads us to work even with a little more adolescents. We want to request 20 more places. We are going to work on this issue better with the Coordinator and the Social Worker to determine what profile of gurís we want. There are many who are not institutionalized either in a Youth Center, nor in a High School, nor in a UTU. There is CECAP, but there are probably gurises that we can recruit. This is not about who stays with the little ones, but rather cares for them. Maybe some cannot go there because it is far away, but they can come here. We also have the advantage that the Coordinator of the Youth Center is the Coordinator of the CECAP, so we can work in a Network much easier.” commented to THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL.
The institution is committed not only to the number of children served but also to an improvement in the proposal each year.
THE EXIT FROM THE YOUTH CENTER
The Director of Picapiedras recalled that about 3 years ago, in a very traditional way, they began to monitor some young people who graduated from the Youth Center. “This year we took a leap in quality in that sense with agreements with UTU for young people over 18 years old, even from the age of 16 or 17 who were still here. We have this follow-up of the boy or girl who wants to leave, here to motivate them. There was a space where they spent 4 hours in a room with computer courses and they saw their classmates who were having an afternoon of recreation. You have to work hard on that, because they live today without thinking about what is coming, which is “It’s normal for a teenager to think that way.” said Martín Álvarez.
Community integration was also achieved through courses with INEFOP in Rural Carpentry and Makeup.
“This year we present ourselves to be the ones who give courses to the community and integrate a company not only with the intention of training but also how they insert themselves into the workforce, which is the most difficult challenge in what the project asks for” he pointed out. “We know that they are going to come out well trained, with capacity, and that they need an opportunity in the middle” express.
The feedback has been positive, but there are some aspects to improve. “We are working on it this week.” said. “It will be one more step in this process that we have been carrying out” he added.
CLOSING OF WORKSHOPS
Martín Álvarez confirmed that on Wednesday, December 3, starting at 7:00 p.m., the workshops will close, although children and adolescents will continue to attend until the end of the year. “It will be a closure that we will do divided but united in the sense that each project will do the most important thing that it deems appropriate on that day, but all within the facilities of all the projects in an integrated way because sometimes we take things for granted, but there are young people who come to the Youth Center who do not know that there is a CAIF” he pointed out.
“There will be a display of everything that was done by the Neighborhood Community References, which this year was very intense. The candidates for Mayor were here at the time, they committed to certain things, now Morel came and in all the management that he has planned for the 5 years he made an exception for us and the spotlights are already on for lighting at least the block.” stood out.
“We are in contact with the people of OSE because of the firms that came together for sanitation. It has been a very busy, very intense year, but in which Flintstones has made a leap in quality. We are going to continue insisting and encouraging so that more neighbors join this group” hill.
