“We want a November 25 free of violence against women, but we also want not only this day to be remembered; that not only on this day do we go out to protest against violence against women, but we want every day in this great city to fight against violence,” said the capital’s president.
This Tuesday a mobilization will take place in different parts of the Historic Center of Mexico City for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Brugada maintained that although the right to social protest is respected in the capital, it must be without violence.
“We fully recognize the legitimate right of women to take to the streets and raise their voices.
“In Mexico City we defend protest as a right and as a form of democratic participation and we reiterate: in this city we march against violence, without violence,” he said.
Brugada announced that this Tuesday, together with members of her cabinet, she will present the annual results report of the Violence Against Women Alert, decreed in 2019 by the then head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, currently president of the country.
He also announced that he will send the capital’s Congress a package of initiatives to carry out reforms regarding sexual and family violence.
This Monday, the capital’s president launched the campaign If They Touch You, It Touches Us, with which a series of 12 messages will be disseminated in public spaces such as squares, parks, streets and markets as well as on public transport, which will seek to raise awareness about gender violence and call on the capital’s residents to be part of the solution.
