Magdalena reinforces security: 2,300 police officers for atypical elections

More than 2,300 uniformed officers will monitor the atypical elections in Magdalena, with security rings, road controls and digital monitoring.

Within the framework of the atypical elections that will be carried out in the department of Magdalenathe National Police activated a special operation with more than 2,300 uniformed personnel strategically distributed in the 30 municipalities of the territory, with the aim of guaranteeing a safe, orderly and transparent election day.

The device includes air and land capabilities, as well as a robust intelligence and criminal investigation schemeintended to prevent any risk that could alter the normal development of the electoral contest. The authorities indicated that the uniformed officers will be attentive to receiving citizen complaints and to intervene immediately in the event of any eventuality that affects security.

The deployment also includes the support of the Command, Control, Communications and Computing Center (C4), from where they will advance permanent cyber patrols. These tasks will make it possible to monitor social networks, detect false or manipulated information and counteract any content that generates anxiety or attempts to improperly influence voters.

In order to guarantee the normal functioning of the voting stations, the National Police announced that there will be security rings at each electoral pointas well as controls on main roads, rural areas and areas with difficult access. In addition, the police presence will be reinforced in municipalities with a history of public order disturbances, prioritizing the prevention of electoral crimes and the protection of witnesses, jurors and officials of the Registry Office.

The authorities emphasized that for this day a inter-institutional articulation with the Military Forces, the Attorney General’s Office, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Registry, with the purpose of reacting in a coordinated manner to any eventuality. This integration seeks to strengthen the real time surveillance and provide citizens with full guarantees to exercise their right to vote without intimidation or undue pressure.

Brigadier General Edwin Masleider Urrego Pedraza, commander in charge of Police Region No. 8, stated: “Any observation or anomalous situation that you may observe, we recommend that you go to any Police station or inform us on line 123”.

The National Police reiterated its commitment to preserving public order and guaranteeing that these atypical elections take place without setbackswith the certainty that each vote can be exercised in an atmosphere of tranquility and trust.
