The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro Sarmiento, arrived yesterday in Mexico City to make an official visit to the country, during which she is scheduled to meet tomorrow with President Claudia Sheinbaum, at the National Palace, along with their respective delegations, in which economic and immigration issues will mainly be addressed.
Castro Sarmiento arrived in our country around 5:11 p.m. at Military Air Base Number 19 of the Mexico City International Airport.
She was received by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, representing the Mexican government, and by the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Raquel Serur.
For her part, the Honduran ambassador to Mexico, Sonia Cruz, declared yesterday to the press in her country that the president’s agenda will begin today with a visit to the diplomatic headquarters to address consular and immigration matters.
“Throughout this country (Mexico) we have Hondurans who, in their desire to cross north, have been left, no longer in transit, but with the intention of staying; so we are deploying many actions through our consular network so that these people can have a definitive space to settle,” he declared.
He explained that in the next meeting he will speak with President Sheinbaum about bilateral projects on economic issues and to consolidate the relationship between both nations.
“We have always had excellent relations with Mexico. Now, because it is a woman who holds the government here in Mexico, relations are more fluid,” he declared.
Castro’s last visit to the country’s capital was on September 29 of last year, when he participated in the inauguration of Sheinbaum.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that Mexico and Honduras strengthen their “fraternal bilateral relationship for the benefit of their people and in favor of harmony and cooperation for the development of the region.”
