Fifth withdrawal of 10%: President of the Chamber opened himself to the possibility while the Government discarded the idea

Fifth withdrawal of 10%: President of the Chamber opened himself to the possibility while the Government discarded the idea

From the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies began to circulate again, the until now absent, fifth withdrawal of 10%, in the prelude to the work with Congress that will begin, this Tuesday, the Government of Gabriel Boric.

And it is that during this day, the deputy René Alinco (independent) announced that he will present the project of the fifth withdrawal of funds, arguing in 24 hours that the economy of the Chilean people “goes from bad to worse” and that it will stop supporting pension withdrawals if they rise from 250 and the minimum wage to 500 thousand pesos.

Along these lines, for his part, the president of the Lower House, Raúl Soto (PPD), affirmed that the initiative will be evaluated at the time and is not closed to the possibility. While the spokeswoman, Camila Vallejo, ruled out the idea, emphasizing that this position of the Executive has been “extremely transparent, clear during the campaign and during the time prior to the assumption of the presidential mandate.”

Already consulted on the same issue in various media, Soto for two days has maintained his position that if “citizens understand that there is a need to reopen that debate, certainly we have to give it, and each parliamentarian will say what his position is ” he pointed out in “National State” (TVN) for the fifth withdrawal.

Likewise, he clarified that “we will coordinate this year’s legislative priorities together with the Government of President Gabriel Boric” and these will go “more along the lines of the Tax Reform, the Pension Reform, the minimum wage, the collection of labor, the health reform,” he pointed out.

However, faced with a possible fifth withdrawal, the president of the Lower House assured that at the time, “I am not closed to the possibility, but it is something that must be evaluated.”

Meanwhile, the government spokeswoman ruled out the initiative, since “our position has been extremely clear, it is the position that we have had as a government (…) and during the time prior to the assumption of the presidential mandate.”

Given what other ways are offered as a solution: “We are working on alternatives that are focused on an inclusive recovery of the economy. The Minister of Finance (Mario Marcel), the Minister of Economy (Nicolás Grau) and the Minister of Labor (Jeannette Jara) are looking for alternatives to be able to include in the economic and labor recovery those neglected sectors, where the situation is hardest hit: women, youth, the world of culture,” added the spokeswoman at the press point after the Political Committee.

Regarding the first priority linked to the Tax Reform, Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber stated Cooperativestated that “in tax matters, a project should be separated, one with a shorter term to allow faster collection and hopefully in an easier way”, eliminating tax exemptions and “in this way also confront evasion”.

Therefore, to achieve this “it would be necessary to give urgency to a project that is in the Chamber of Deputies.” And simultaneously and in parallel work “pre-legislatively for a more structural tax reform,” said Lagos Weber.
