The president Luis Abinader left started today Monday the project “Zone Plan“from the Corporation Aqueduct and Sewerage of Santo Domingo (Caasd), with the aim of quickly solving breakdowns and other problems that affect residents in Santo Domingo.
The project has an investment of 700 million pesos intended for 141 teamssuch as trucks, backhoes, suction pumps, power plants, pipes and other elements that will be used to correct problems in the sewerage and aqueduct.
To implement the program, the Caasd divided the Greater Santo Domingo in 20 large operational areas or mini headquarters of the entity, which will be directed by engineers and trained personnel to provide immediate response to the needs that arise.
The director of the entity, Felipe Suberví, said that the project will represent a big change in the speed of the Caasd to the problems that occur in the water and sanitary drainage systems in a territory of more than four million of inhabitants, as is the Greater Santo Domingo.
“With this plan we are taking a decisive step towards a more human servicemore modern and more efficient. People will see more water in their homes, less breakdowns and faster responses,” Suberví said.
The plan also contemplates the execution of 54 priority works that will strengthen the existing structure, including the rehabilitation of water storage tanks, the modernization of distribution networks, new pumping systems and the improvement of the Haina-Manoguayabo, La Isabela, El Tamarindo and Valdesia aqueducts.
Salinity Barrier
The president Luis Abinader congratulated the Caasd for the initiative and stated that “Zone Plan“is part of what the Government always seeks: to improve the service to the population. He pointed out that in the last five years water service has been increased by 25%.
He stated that during the last 16 years no aqueducts were built and that his administration has worked on expanding the Salinity Barrierwhose work will be ready at the end of this year or at the beginning of January 2026.
“It is also good that you know that it is in the process of study, together with the IDBhe Hatillo aqueductwhich is in the studies and will be a project that, after its construction – which would take two or three years—, would satisfy the need for water Greater Santo Domingo“.
