International tensions. Claudia Sheinbaumpresident of Mexicoresponded to José Jerí after he stated that he would not rule out entering the Mexican embassy to arrest Betssy Chavezthe former prime minister involved in the attempted coup d’état Pedro Castillo and currently sheltered in the diplomatic headquarters of the North American country. Sheinbaum warned that, if something like this occurred, Peru would incur a violation of international law.
“What is in question is whether an international irregularity would be committed, a violation of sovereignty. We can have differences, but always within the framework of international law; something similar has already happened in Ecuador. (…) Dialogue is always the best: you can have disagreements and you can give your opinion. They made the decision to break relations with Mexicobut an intervention in the embassy would be outside the norm.”
