The first Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) meets virtually this Monday (24) to decide whether to keep former president Jair Bolsonaro in prison. He was detained by the Federal Police, by decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, on the morning of last Saturday (22), after tampering with the electronic ankle bracelet.
In addition to the problem with the ankle bracelet, Moraes called for Bolsonaro’s arrest after a vigil led by Flávio Bolsonaro – the former president’s eldest son. The STF minister judged that the vigil could cause disturbances in front of the former president’s house. Moraes also considered there to be a risk of escape.
Bolsonaro’s defense claims that his client suffered a hallucination due to the use of medication. The former president said he suffered “mental confusion” when trying to violate the electronic ankle monitor.
