Luis Abinader delivers works to Defense

Santo Domingo.-President Luis Abinader inaugurated new and renovated works in the facilities of the General Division Matías Ramón Mella military facility, headquarters of the Ministry of Defense (MIDE).

The head of state highlighted that during the five years of his mandate, military institutions have been equipped with vehicles and other necessary elements to fulfill their mission of defending the nation.
He also announced that they will have more “drones or unmanned equipment to increasingly protect our country.”

He stated that since his arrival at the Presidency of the Republic he has been focused on improving the conditions of the military institutions to place them at the level required by the moment and that for this they can continue to count on his support.

“Today we can say that we already have an Armed Forces at the level required by the circumstances,” the president emphasized.

The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, highlighted that these improvements are part of the work plan aimed at raising the quality of life and service conditions of soldiers.

Renovated spaces
The areas of the Honor Guard Regiment, which is responsible for security, the rendering of honors and the custody of national monuments, were renewed.

The work included a new façade, reception, armories, storerooms, stairs and corridors, offices, new barbershops for officers and enlisted men and a modern ladies’ beauty salon. A new barracks for 150 enlisted men was also built.

The renovations of the ministry also included the reopening of the Cultural Radio Station “La Voz de las Fuerzas Armadas”, which now has modernized stations in Santo Domingo and Alto Bandera.
