The commission for the repeal of the 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC) will use the radio and television network on Next Tuesday the 22nd at 8:00 p.m. A day later, on Wednesday the 23rd, President Luis Lacalle Pou will lead a press conference in which he will defend the maintenance of the contested articles.
This was defined this Monday after a meeting in the Executive Tower between the secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, and two of those responsible for the campaign for Yes, Rafael Michelini and José Olivera.
“We left with the objective fulfilled, the campaign for the Yes will be broadcasting its message to the citizens that Tuesday”, Olivera said at a press conference consigned by Telemundo. In this sense, she pointed out that the changes in the rules of the game “are never good” and “the important thing” would have been for citizens to know the two messages under the same conditions.
“It is a political option of the government and a risky one,” said Olivera regarding the press conference that the president will give. “This is influenced by what the polls show today that mark a scenario of absolute parity,” he added.
Asked about a possible response at the conference to the Yes message, Olivera stated that they “trust” the president’s word. “We have no elements to distrust. He himself has said that it would not be correct for the message that is issued from the Yes to be answered through the conference at a later date,” he said.
Regarding the Yes spokesman, the member of the commission maintained that “it is probable that there will be an institutional message”, but it is not yet defined. “We are against the clock because there is already a date and time to deliver the material,” he said.
