The Venezuelan Armed Forces detained two people, a Colombian and a Venezuelan, after an emergency landing in the state of Bolívar (southern, bordering Brazil) on an aircraft from of Guyana that did not have authorization, reported this Sunday the strategic operational commander of the military institution, Domingo Hernández Lárez.
In his Telegram account, the military chief explained that the subjects – both pilots – “flagrantly broke in and invaded” Venezuelan airspace, “violating national sovereignty and contravening the law of control for comprehensive defense.”
Likewise, he assured that the individuals were traveling at low altitude aboard a fixed-wing aircraft model Cessna 210, with hidden registration XB-NQJ and without a transponder – a device that responds to radar signals – or formal geolocation instruments.
Likewise, he indicated that they made an emergency landing on the runway of an indigenous community in the Gran Sabana municipality, where “they were intercepted, captured and placed at the command of the competent authorities.”
The plane, later “disabled”, “presented a modification in the co-pilot door, with a device for launching cargo through the hatch, as well as internal fuel tanks for more performance, which is why it is presumed that it was a means prepared and used for the illicit trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances,” Hernández Lárez stressed.
The authorities seized three GPS devices, an Iridium model 9555N satellite phone, 18,590,000 Colombian pesos (approximately $4,900), four cell phones and an Icom brand VHF radio.
The Venezuelan government has destroyed 26 aircraft in 2025 for a total record of 417, according to Hernández Lárez.
