Accompanied by the governors of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez, and of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, Sheinbaum recognized the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), whose head, Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales, accompanied them on the tour, for making the Interoceanic Train possible.
This mega-work was started last six-year term during the government of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and to make it possible
On May 19, 2023, Semar assumed control of three sections of that railway line, which was private, as it was concessioned to businessman Germán Larrea.
The decision was complementary to the declaration of that section as a “public utility” to be used for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
In the final project of the Transismic Train, also known as the Interoceanic Train or Interoceanic Corridor of the Isth of Tehuantepec, it will pass through Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Chiapas. And it will be for transporting passengers and cargo.
Today the president inaugurated the Tonalá and Arriaga stations, in Chiapas; and Chahuites and Juchitán, in Oaxaca, routes that starting tomorrow will be open to the public.
Train Line K is made up of three sections:
- From Ciudad Ixtepec to Tonalá;
- From Tonalá to Huixtla;
- from Huixtla to Ciudad Hidalgo and KA, from Los Toros to Puerto Chiapas.
This Line K will be articulated with Lines Z and FA of the Interoceanic Railway, which will connect 14 development poles located in the ports of Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz and Salina Cruz, Oaxaca; Dos Bocas, Tabasco and Puerto Chiapas.
At the Chahuites station of the Interoceanic Train, located in Oaxaca, the president led a meeting with residents to celebrate the opening of the station.
There he highlighted: “we came from Tonalá and we are going to Ixtepec. Starting tomorrow you can buy your ticket and go to Ixtepex, Salina Cruz, then along the Isthmus to Coatzacoalcos and you can go to Palenque (Chiapas).”
“And we are going to continue working so that next year we can go from Tonalá to Ciudad Hidalgo, the border with Guatemala. You already know that there will never be distance between the government and the people,” he told the residents, whom he urged to buy their tickets starting tomorrow.
Later in Juchitán he highlighted that the mega-project “together with the development poles will attract investment, generate jobs and activate local commerce.”
