What would Mezcala and its islands be without its community members? A new attempt at capitalist invasion of this Coca town on the shores of Lake Chapala, Jalisco, has to be reversed due to the population’s rejection of the organization, within its sacred territory, of an infamous rave event. You could already see the techno music entrepreneurs with their neon lights and a campsite with a great offer of alcoholic beverages within the heart of an indigenous town, but in Mezcala they said “NO”, as they did in 2010, when Felipe Calderón’s government tried to privatize the island through a trust, and it also failed.
