Bolsonaro used welding to try to open an ankle bracelet; check out video

Former president Jair Bolsonaro used a soldering iron to try to open the electronic ankle bracelet. The information is contained in a report from the State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration of the Federal District (Seap) sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) along with a video in which Bolsonaro himself admits the error.Bolsonaro used welding to try to open an ankle bracelet; check out video

“[Foi] curiosity”, he said, informing that the attempt to open the equipment took place late in the afternoon on Friday (21).

At 00:07 this Saturday (22), the Integrated Electronic Monitoring Center (CIME) system generated an ankle bracelet violation alert. In the morning, Bolsonaro was arrested by the Federal Police.

The STF minister, Alexandre de Moraes, removed the confidentiality of the Seap report and video and gave 24 hours for Bolsonaro’s defense to comment on the attempt to violate the ankle bracelet.

“The equipment had clear and important signs of damage. There were burn marks around its entire circumference, where the case was fitted/closed. At the time of the analysis, the monitored person was questioned about the instrument used. In response, he reported that he used a soldering iron to try to open the equipment”, says the report.

The ankle bracelet was then replaced with other equipment.

Also this Friday, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) called, via social media, a prayer vigil near the house where his father, Jair Bolsonaro, had been under house arrest since August 4th.

In decision that determined preventive detentionMinister Alexandre de Moraes cites the violation of the ankle bracelet and says that the meeting could cause turmoil and even facilitate “a possible escape attempt by the defendant”.

Sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison in the coup plot, Bolsonaro and the other defendants could have their sentences carried out in the coming weeks.

Last week, the First Panel of the Court rejected the so-called embargoes for declaration by the former president and six other defendants to reverse the convictions and avoid the execution of sentences in a closed regime.

This Sunday (23), the deadline for the defenses to present their last appeals ends. If appeals are rejected, arrests will be carried out.

The former president’s defense even requested, this Friday, the granting of humanitarian house arrest to Jair Bolsonaro, which was rejected by Moraes this Saturday. According to lawyers, Bolsonaro has permanent illnesses, which require “intense medical monitoring” and, for this reason, the former president must remain under house arrest.

Regarding today’s preventive detention, the defense states that he will appeal the decision.

Bolsonaro was under house arrest due to non-compliance with precautionary measures already established by the STF.

They were determined in the investigation in which federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of the former president, is being investigated for his actions with the government of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to promote retaliatory measures against the Brazilian government and ministers of the Supreme Court.
