During the hearing, the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Manzó’s murder may have been planned by members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), who allegedly offered a payment of two million pesos to carry out the crime, and that there would have been a leak from Manzo’s close environment that facilitated the attack.
It was also stated that on the day of the crime, one of Manzo’s bodyguards, who was a municipal police officer, shot the perpetrator, Víctor Hugo, 17 years old, in the back of the head with the same weapon that he used to attack the mayor and even though he was already subdued on the ground.
According to testimonies in the courtroom, a doctor tried to help the hitman after being shot, but local security elements prevented him from approaching. Only until the arrival of the National Guard was access allowed, when the aggressor had already died.
The Prosecutor’s Office thus maintained that Jorge Armando “N” coordinated the logistics of the attack and the intervention of at least three hitmen.
