Pedro Castillo: Coup leader launches accusations in oral trial against him

It was his opportunity to defend himself, but his final argument was only loaded with victimization and accusations, in a sign that Pedro Castillo He had no arguments to justify the coup d’état he carried out in December 2022.

In the midst of his absurd defense grounds that he presented at this Friday’s hearing of the oral trial against him for the crime of rebellion, the former president pointed out to Congresswoman María del Carmen Alva that she had asked him for two ministries to remain in the government.

“When I assumed my government I went to an activity in Ancón and when I entered the helicopter I met María del Carmen Alva, she changed places with my security agent, she sits next to me, rubs my elbows, takes a selfie with me and tells me: “I need two ministries for you to stay until 2026″, I thought it was a joke,” said the coup plotter, who said he remembers that Alva recommended that “he had to share the government.”

Castillo also said that the then legislator from Acción Popular also asked him not to interfere with the agro-exporters of Ica. “If you are not going to give me the two ministries, I want you not to touch the agro-exporters of Ica because my husband works there.”

His intervention only served to reaffirm that he cannot refute the tax accusations and his responsibility in the democratic breakdown. From the beginning he sought to victimize himself: “Today I appear before you as a president of the republic kidnapped by an unjust process and a process designed to destroy me,” said Castillo, who only prolonged the show he has been doing since the beginning of the process in March of this year and even minimized the coup d’état, pointing out that it was just a “political speech.”

“They blame me for a coup d’état just for reading a page,” the imprisoned former president tried to defend himself. “I am not a coup plotter, I am not a terrorist, I am a teacher.”

Castillo reported that, hours before issuing his message to the nation on December 7, 2022, he had already received information about an alleged early decision by Congress to approve his vacancy, the third that was presented against him.

The coup plotter ended his speech by asking Jesus Christ to take care of the people and his family and the magistrates, justice. “I have not come to ask for clemency, much less absolution in my case, I only ask for justice,” he said.

The trial will continue next Thursday the 27th starting at nine in the morning.
