The National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) reported that this weekend the facility of the first signs and reducers of the Malecón de Santo Domingo, as part of the redesign carried out together with the Mayor’s Office of the National District after years of citizen complaints about run overs and the difficulty of crossing its four lanes.
As explained by the institution, the jobs will begin with the placement of vertical signsconsidered to have less impact, during this weekend and the next.
Then, between next week and the week after, the warning bands at the points where the new ones will be built elevated driveways.
The first “speed table“, a high speed reducer will be built in front of the Plaza Juan Barón and the Eugenio María de Hostos Parkone of the areas with the highest pedestrian flow.
To minimize inconvenience to residents and drivers, the Intrant indicated that the majority of jobs will be done during late-night
Priority areas of the Malecón
He comprehensive redesign of the Malecón prioritizes the crossings with greater frequency of run overshigh speed driving and high flow of pedestrians. Among the points identified are:
- Pedestrian crossing in front of Montesinos Park.
- Juan Barón Park and its environment.
- Areas hotel of the Malecón.
- Crosses near the cinema near the Maximo Gomez Avenue.
- Intersections near the Dominican National Brewerythe Livestock Fair and the linear park under development.

He Intrant reiterated that this comprehensive intervention seeks reduce the high rate of road accidents in one of the most emblematic and busiest spaces in the city capitalwhere recreational, cultural, vehicular and tourist activities converge.
The entity highlighted that the project aims save lives and improve the safety of both pedestrians and drivers, in a corridor that has historically been the scene of serious accidents and where citizens demand speed control measures.
