'Colombia is the Regions': exhibition of flavors and traditions in Bogotá

For three days, attendees find folklore displays, crafts and music.

Of the November 21 to 23the Parque de la 93 became a great stage that celebrates the diversity of the country with the second edition of the Fair’Colombia are the Regions‘, a meeting that brings together the 32 departments in the same space to exalt their cultural, artisanal, tourist and gastronomic identity.

For three days, attendees find folkloric displays, crafts, music, typical products and experiences that allow them to explore Colombia without leaving Bogotá. The director of the National Federation of Departments, Didier Taverahighlighted the momentum of this fair.

“We are going to have more than 300 artists on stage on stage, singing, dancing, doing cultural displays, folklore expressions. But additionally, each of these stands has a curatorship and collects traditions, they collect history. There are some stands where they will find a tourist promotion, because it is also an excuse to invite them now in this December season so that before they think of being outside Colombia, they visit ours first,” he noted.

Artistic exhibitions

He also announced that more than 300 artists will take to the stage with presentations that include dance, traditional music and folkloric expressions.

The president of the National Federation of Departments and governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuletastated that the purpose of the fair is to reaffirm national pride.

“What we are looking for with this fair is for the entire world and Colombia to feel proud of their country, for Colombians to be increasingly proud of being Colombians, but also for Colombia and the world to discover the richness that the regions of Colombia have,” he said.

Promote crafts

He stressed that the event not only boosts the sales of more than 140 invited artisans, but also gives them national visibility, a fundamental value to strengthen their family economies and preserve traditional crafts.

One of those artisans is Nicky Ojedarepresentative of the department of Arauca, who arrived with a varied sample of handmade products.

“We bring espadrilles, keychains, honey, cocoa and a part of our flora and fauna converted into crafts. Arauca has the best cocoa in the world and we come to share a little piece of our land,” he stated.

He also took the opportunity to invite attendees to the joropo fairs, which will be held from December 4 to 8 in his apartment.

Wealth of the regions

Santander also has a prominent role in the fair. Paola Lichtan artist and illustrator from Veleña, explained the richness behind the traditional Santander costume and its gastronomy.

“In Santander we have everything from the culona ant, the log sandwich, the typical Santander costume, 100% hand-embroidered, our beautiful artisans, the fique, the guava, the requinto, the tiple, the guabina, the torbellino dance,” he said.

The fair will be open until Sunday night and promises to continue being a cultural showcase that confirms that Colombia are its regions.
