The judge Juan Carlos Checkley revoked the appearance measure with restrictions imposed on the former president of the Council of Ministers Betssy Chavezand imposed 5 months of preventive detention. In addition, the magistrate ordered his capture at the international level.
The judicial decision was based on the fact that he had breached rules of conduct, such as attending the biometric control and the oral trial.
As recalled, Chávez has remained in asylum at the Mexican Embassy in Lima since the beginning of November 2025.
The former premier is being prosecuted for the failed coup d’état of December 7, 2022, led by Pedro Castillo. He is attributed political and criminal responsibility for coordinating and disseminating the presidential message that announced the dissolution of Congress, the intervention of the judicial system and the establishment of a “government of exception.”
The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that Chávez, as president of the Council of Ministers, collaborated in the preparation and dissemination of Castillo’s coup message, in which he ordered the closure of Congress and the reorganization of the judicial system.
