José Jerí affirms that the Executive Branch will intervene "in a few days" in the Reinfo case and will present a new approach

The transitional president, José Jeríannounced that the Executive Branch will define and formally present its position regarding the extension of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry (Reinfo) “in a couple of days”, ensuring that his intervention will occur directly during the debate on the issue in the Plenary Session of the Congress of the Republic.

Jerí indicated that his Government is within hours of finalizing the official position, which will be aligned with the technical recommendation issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem).

“We are hours away, if not days, because when the issue of Reinfothat is when the Executive is going to intervene and make some proposal in the corresponding procedures, surely through a document that can be presented to the plenary session so that, through the corresponding channels (it is approved),” the president declared to the press.

Congress approves expanding Reinfo

The Executive’s announcement occurs while Congress advances the extension proposal. The Energy and Mines Commission has already approved the opinion that seeks to extend the validity of the Reinfo until December 2027.

Currently, registration is the mechanism that allows miners in the process of formalization to operate within the legal framework, but current registrations are scheduled to expire on December 31, 2025.

The president of Parliament, Fernando Rospigliosi, had previously indicated that the expansion of Reinfo was an “inevitable” measure given the lack of approval of the Small Mining and Artisanal Mining Law (ASM) and the imminent exclusion of more than 30 thousand records.

The extension seeks to prevent thousands of miners from being left out of the legal system as they have not yet completed the formalization procedures required by the regulations.

President Jerí, for his part, asked congressmen to approve the measure with “a sense of speed and opportunity”, hoping that this tool can “complement the actions that we have been implementing as a Government through the state of emergency” in areas affected by illegal mining. The final decision on the extension of the Reinfo is pending debate and voting in the Plenary of Congress.
