The hidden paradise of the Colombian Pacific that has nothing to envy of the Caribbean: an island with crystal-clear waters that surprises travelers

PLaya Blanca, Chocó (1)

Peaceful tourism, intact nature and turquoise waters make this an unmissable destination.

News Colombia.

In Colombia, the Caribbean beaches usually attract attention for their intense colors and crystal clear waters. However, the Colombian Pacific, often overlooked, holds equally impressive settings: remote beaches, thick jungle and seas that surprise with their turquoise blue tone. There, far from noise and mass tourism, tranquility is an essential part of the landscape.

One of the places that best represents this beauty is the Playa Blanca island, located in Bahía Solano, Chocó. Those who come to this corner describe a scene that is difficult to forget: a piece of clear sand coast, embraced by a warm and crystalline sea, where turquoise mixes with the deep green of a jungle that seems to never end.

The natural environment is impressive. The visitor will observe a series of mountainous foothills covered with lush tropical jungle that cut the sea half-hidden in the mist. In addition, these protected waters serve as a route and refuge for migratory species such as sea turtles, birds and whales, and as a spawning ground for fish such as the Ensenadeña pipefish (Tylosurus acus pacificus). For this reason, many agree that Playa Blanca is a mandatory stop when traveling to Chocó.

Other must-see destinations to visit in Chocó

But Bahía Solano offers much more. To start the tour, Colombia Travel recommends starting in Ciudad Mutis, the municipal seat. There is the Airport Jump, a natural pool of cold water about six meters high and seven meters deep, which is just a 10-minute walk from the air terminal.

A few steps away is also the Salto de Chocolatal, a five-meter waterfall that can be reached after a short walk through the jungle. It is an ideal place to get up close and personal with the biodiversity that makes Colombia one of the richest countries in nature.

Another unmissable experience is the pool of love, a waterfall that flows into a pool of fresh, crystalline water that connects with the sea when the tide rises. It is located just 15 minutes from Ciudad Mutis and is one of the favorite places for travelers.

If beaches are your thing, Bahía Solano is also surprising. Playa Potes, located 30 minutes away by boat, offers calm waters and charming views. Very close, five minutes by boat, are the Morros Vidales islets, an ideal spot for diving and snorkeling. From there you can walk to the Huina, de las Flores, Huacas and Nabugá beaches, known for their dolphin and whale watching.

The adventure continues in the Utría National Park, a space where visitors can walk among mangroves and observe four of the seven species of mangrove present in Colombia: the piñuelo, the red, the black and the white. Its appearance, with roots that descend like arms to the ground, seems straight out of a movie.

The biodiversity of the area is immense: orchids, bromeliads, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and a wide variety of corals make up a unique setting. And for those who enjoy outdoor activities, options include kayaking, snorkeling, surfing and walks on beaches such as Punta Diego, Cocalito and, of course, the charming Playa Blanca.
