Hegseth: Our “backyard” was ignored for too long

The United States Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, referred to Operation Southern Spear, which they are carrying out in the Caribbean, and stated that for too long our own backyard was “ignored,” and that they want to offer President Donald Trump options to “do a lot of things.”

In one interview To the media OAN, partially published, Hegseth indicated that the Pentagon is “better at planning than any organization in the world” and is focused on “making sure that the President has options to do many things, including the mission against the cartels”, a pretext used to justify his operations in the area.

“The message being conveyed is that the president of the United States takes very seriously the protection of our homeland and the American people, who for too long ignored our own ‘backyard.’ And we have allowed the cartels and narcoterrorists to roam freely,” he said.

The official also described as “erroneous” the numerous reports that “intentionally question the motives” of the US attacks carried out in the area.

“We know exactly who we attack, why we attack them and what they carry with them,” Hegseth said, emphasizing that Washington “can track and pursue cells and narcoterrorists in any country in the world.” In addition, the Secretary of War warned that Trump “is not playing” and that “nothing is off the table” for what they will do soon.

When asked about the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, Hegseth recalled that Washington has accused him of allegedly leading a criminal organization. This has been repeatedly rejected by the Venezuelan Government.

Since last August, the United States has maintained a military deployment in the Caribbean, off the Venezuelan coast, which includes warships, submarines, combat aircraft and troops, arguing that it is part of its supposed fight against drug trafficking. With this excuse, they have attacked small boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific, leaving more than 70 people murdered.

However, the Venezuelan president has denounced that Washington’s aggressions have as their main objective a change of Government and the great wealth of the nation, mainly oil.

Likewise, reports from the United Nations and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have ruled out Venezuela as a point for the production or trafficking of illegal substances destined for the North American country.
