Vice President: let the insurgent history not die because it is the one that fights for sovereignty

In the context of the delivery, this Thursday, of the national history prize, the executive vice president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, stated that, “insurgent history does not die because it is the one that fights for sovereignty.”

In the presentation of this award, Delcy Rodríguez stressed that in Venezuela the resistance for freedom against Monroism is still alive.

During his speech, he highlighted that beyond academic knowledge, it is a full awareness of commitment to Venezuela and the defense of its independence.

Recognition of historical resistance

Rodríguez stressed that the awards include recognition of indigenous resistance, the epic of the Battle of Independence of Venezuela, the union of the peoples of Latin America and the history of the insurgents.

He noted that the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías meant a ray of hope for the country, opening the door to return to the nation’s historical roots.

Historical insurgency and national commitment

The vice president highlighted that from that moment on, the historical insurgency of the Venezuelan people began to be written with greater force.

In his words, this insurgency represents the continuity of the fight for sovereignty and freedom in the face of external threats.

Rodríguez also stated that President Nicolás Maduro has given lessons in courage, demonstrating that “these people are not blackmailable.”

The vice president also recalled Simón Bolívar’s speech at the Congress of Angostura, in 1818. “Spain resorted to psychological warfare to try to break the will of the Venezuelan people, and Bolívar responded firmly by proclaiming the Republic.”

He emphasized that that historical moment is very similar to the attacks that seek, today, to subjugate free peoples to impose a “diplomacy of deception” and strip them of their wealth.

The 2025 National History Prize seeks to make visible and recognize the historical struggles that have marked the Venezuelan identity, from the indigenous communities to the processes of independence and contemporary resistance.

The ceremony was held in Caracas and included the participation of authorities, historians and representatives of organized communities.
