Former BC councilor and 15 other people arrested for drug trafficking

A former councilor of Boca Chica and 15 other people were arrested during an operation led by more than 350 members of the Public Ministry and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) accused of being part of a money laundering network coming from the drug trafficking.

Among the detained employees or hired staff of the Caucedo Multimodal Port who took advantage of their access levels to the terminal to carry out their illicit operations.

Those arrested were identified as the former councilor of the Modern Revolutionary Party Francisco Alberto Paulino Castro (Francis or Compadre), José Augusto Rodríguez Sánchez (el Rubio), Melvin Manuel Fis Taveras, Wilmer Evangelista Rumaldo, Ángel David Féliz Cuevas and Edwin Alberto Mejía Guerrero.

He also arrested Fernando Javier Castro RamosWilson Tomás Altagracia de la Cruz, Leandro Manuel Arias Santana (Berni), Cleudi Zapata, Manuel Almancio Moreno de los Santos, Fernando de Jesús Ventura Segura, Jonathan Ditren (the Witch), Mauricio Josué Castillo and José Alberto López Alcántara (Bururun).

A press release from Public Ministry explains that the operations are the result of several months of investigation and monitoring of this network of drug traffickingtasks that allowed the occupation of a stash of 200 packages of cocaine made by him Public Ministry and the DNCD with the support of State intelligence agencies and the collaboration of the Military Security of the Caucedo Multimodal Port on November 7th.

The group was arrested during 36 raids made by 40 prosecutors and 312 DNCD agents in different areas of the National District and the province of Santo Domingo (Boca Chica) and San Pedro de Macorís.

The deputy attorney Wilson Camachodirector of Pursuit of the Public Ministryexplained that in the next few hours the detained what will they be processed for their connection to the commission of crimes related to drug trafficking or money laundering.
