After the publication of a media outlet in which they mentioned that Colombia would give supposed support to an alleged negotiated exit plan of the Constitutional President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the Government of President Gustavo Petro denied such information through a statement, and reiterated its respect for the sovereignty of the neighboring country and its rejection of interference in the internal affairs of other States.
The text issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia clarifies “that the information that has circulated in the media in recent hours does not correspond to what Foreign Minister Villavicencio Mapy expressed in the interview.”
In this sense, Colombia emphasizes respect for international law and does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and respects the sovereignty of the brother country of Venezuela.
“Colombia and Venezuela maintain a historical relationship of respect and this cannot be affected by decontextualized information published in the media,” the Foreign Ministry reiterates.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs thus refuted the content of the interview given by Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio to Bloomberg, in which – according to the media – the official supposedly said that Colombia would support a plan for the negotiated departure of President Nicolás Maduro from power.
