Three foreign tourists and a Cuban suffered injuries as a result of a partial collapse in a hotel in Trinidadin Sancti Spíritus.
The collapse affected part of the ceiling of the buffet restaurant of the Memories Trinidad del Mar hoteland caused minor injuries to four clients who were at the scene at that time, according to press reports.
The incident took place last Tuesday night, when a part of the false plasterboard ceiling detached due to a structural failure which is still being investigated, as confirmed to Radio Sancti Spíritus Luis Ernesto Camellón Curbelo, subdelegate of the Minister of Tourism in the territory.
The manager explained that The collapse caused material damage and forced the temporary interruption of service in that area.
The injured were “hit by the rebound of fragments of the false ceiling when it fell” and received immediate assistance in the place itself. None required to be transferred to a health center, Camellón Curbelo stated.
“They were treated and are without problems. They remain in the hotel and expressed satisfaction with the care provided,” he stated.
Research underway
After the incident, technical teams and installation specialists began a preliminary evaluation to determine the causes of the failure.
While the investigation is underway, the workforce has already been hired to repair the affected area, according to state media.
Despite the collapse, the hotel maintained its operations. The gastronomic services were reorganized in alternative spaces “without affecting their comfort or the quality of the service,” according to Camellón Curbelo.
Memories Trinidad del Mar It is a four-star resort located on the Ancón peninsula. The hotel has 241 rooms and architecture inspired by the colonial town of Trinidaddeclared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Sector authorities indicated that diagnostic and repair work will continue over the next few days, while all other areas of the resort remain operational.
The administration assured that it works to reset buffet restaurant “in the shortest possible time” and ensure that the incident does not affect the guest experience or the regular provision of services.
