Congress: They approve a rule that provides compensation to users for interruption of water service

The Plenary Session of Congress approved, with 93 votes in favor, the approval of Bill 4553/2022-CR, which modifies Legislative Decree 1280 to include direct compensation to users when an unjustified interruption of the drinking water or sanitation service is recorded.

The rule had previously been observed by the Executive, but the opinion incorporated the requested adjustments.

The president of the Consumer Defense Commission, Katy Ugarte, pointed out that the measure seeks to strengthen the relationship between provider companies and users, by forcing the recognition of specific effects when the failure is attributable to the operator.

The approved text specifies that The company must compensate the user for the time without service and that the corresponding regulations will define the criteria to qualify these cases.

Besides, A provision was included that orders the Executive to adapt the Housing sector regulations within a maximum period of 180 days to guarantee the correct application of the new compensation scheme.
