Santo Domingo.-The Spanish writer and researcher Irene Vallejo called for Dominican universities to lead a profound cultural transformation that allows them to face the challenges of the national educational system through reading, critical thinking and humanistic training.
He highlighted that the challenges that Dominican education is experiencing, such as reading gaps, inequalities in access to knowledge and the need to strengthen cognitive skills, require higher education institutions that assume a more active role in the creation of a citizenry capable of understanding, analyzing and transforming reality.
Upon being awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the APEC University (Unapec), she defended the role of academies as guardians of critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and deep reading, elements that, according to her, are essential for innovation, human progress and democratic health.
It is his first time in the Dominican Republic.
Not immediacy
— Processes
Vallejo pointed out that Dominican education cannot be limited to immediate or utilitarian responses, but must focus on long-term training processes.
