The Minister in charge of Health, Ivette Berrío, clarified this Monday that the approval of the Covaxin vaccine against Covid-19 in emergency cases does not mean that the National Government has acquired it to be applied to the population.
He explained that this approval for the emergency use of the Covaxin vaccine against coronavirus means that private hospitals will be able to apply these doses in Panama.
“It has been approved because it shows all its complete paperwork, with this approval it means that any private health entity can apply this vaccine or can have it and apply it as it sees fit, it is authorized to be used in our country but it is not a vaccine that has acquired the National Government to offer it to citizens”, he detailed.
He reiterated that the Government has only acquired the anticovid doses from the pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and AstraZeneca to apply it to citizens.
“It is not a vaccine that the National Government is acquiring. The National Government has acquired two vaccines to fight Covid-19 and these are the Pfizer vaccine and the AstraZeneca vaccine, these are the two vaccines that the Government has acquired to apply to citizens. With this (Covaxin) there would be three (approved) vaccines, because it is the third that has presented its documentation to the regulatory entity that is Pharmacies and Drugs in the Minsa, ”he pointed out.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported last Saturday, March 12, that, through the National Directorate of Pharmacy and Drugs, Panama approved the emergency use of the Covaxin vaccine, against the inactive coronavirus of the entire SARS-virion. CoV-2 (BBV152). It is developed in India.
This vaccine is indicated for active immunization against Covid-19 infection for young people from 18 years of age; the complete vaccination schedule for this vaccine will be two doses; however, the application of it will be postponed for patients suffering from acute febrile illness or acute infection.
