Tulipán railway terminal in operations to connect Artemisa and Pinar del Río with Havana

The Tulipán Street railway station, in Havana, today recovered its full operational capacity, after several months under total repair.

The terminal, which connects the provinces of Artemisa and Pinar del Río with the capital by train, will offer greater comfort and security to thousands of daily users, said today in Facebook the Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.

Although not many details are given now about the new features of the place, two months ago the minister himself announced that this would be “an integrated service point”, as it would house the train station, a cafeteria for those waiting and the Travel Agency – which is part of the station – “all designed to improve the experience of people who use the railway.”

Then, Rodríguez Dávila pointed out that the work involved almost total reconstruction in sections, thanks to the Sociedad Mercantil Ferromar SA with financing from the Fund for the Development of Public Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation.

In this way, the roof was completely renewed, adjusting slopes to eliminate leaks. In addition, the sanitary network was redone, most of the floor was restored and its own generating set was installed to guarantee operation during power interruptions.

According to the official, the outdoor area was redesigned with more comfortable waiting spaces, a reorganized cafeteria and a nursing room for mothers with small children.

Meanwhile, the final works included polishing the floor, installation of permanent bathrooms, complete painting and perimeter fencing.

Likewise, with the integration of the Travel Agency in the same building, passengers can purchase tickets and “resolve procedures without additional travel.”

Rodríguez Dávila stressed that the reopening date of November 19 “is also a day of celebration,” coinciding with the founding of one of the most important means of transportation in the history of Cuba.
