They detect electrical fraud for more than RD$2.2 MM in residential areas

The Distribution Company Electricity from the East (Edeeste) and the Deputy Attorney General’s Office for the Electrical System (Pay) reported this Wednesday about the inspection operation in two wells intended for the supply of drinking water in the Natura and Arboleda residential areas, located in the province of La Altagracia.

A technical report from Edeeste establishes that the irregular consumption rose to 193,641 kWhwhich represents annual losses of 2.2 million pesos for the company.

A press release explains that, during the intervention, the technicians identified illegal actions in the electrical connection and they drew up the corresponding irregularity report, after verifying a unrecorded consumption which generated a significant economic impact for the national electrical system.

  • These irregular practices, especially when they come from large consumers, directly affect the sustainability of the network, deteriorate the infrastructure, increase losses and compromise the availability of the service for users who do comply with their obligations, as stated by the company in a press release.

They will confront fraud

Both entities reiterated their firm and determined commitment to continue facing the electrical fraud in all its manifestations, thus guaranteeing a fair, transparent and efficient service for each citizen.

This operation is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at protecting legality, ensuring equity in the distribution of energy and strengthening the sustainability of the national electrical system.
