There is often talk about how to apply or who can receive this pensionbut it is equally important to know the causes that can lead to its loss. Currently, more than one million Chilean seniors receive this state contribution, which complements their pensions. The base amount is up to $224,004, but those over 82 years of age receive a supplement that raises the figure to $250,000.
PGU: these are the 6 reasons why you could lose your Pension
The requirements initials to obtain the Pension Guaranteed Universal are known: being 65 years old, having a base pension equal to or less than $1,210,828, and, crucially, not belonging to the richest 10% of the population. The IPS has the legal obligation to periodically review whether the beneficiary continues to comply with these conditions.
The 6 reasons why the IPS can take away your Pension Universal Guaranteed (PGU)
- Not Collecting the PGU for 6 Months: This is a cause for suspension. If the money is not collected for half a continuous year, the payment stops.
- Not Submitting Background Information to the IPS: If the person does not present the requested documents to prove compliance with the requirements, they have a period of three months to do so before their pension is suspended.
- Death of the Beneficiary: It is a cause for termination.
- Travel Abroad (More than 180 Days): Staying outside Chile for a period of more than 180 continuous or discontinuous days during a calendar year is grounds for termination.
- Submission of False Information: Submitting incomplete, erroneous or false information to access the PGU leads to the immediate termination of the pension and may entail legal consequences.
- Failure to Comply with the Targeting: If the economic situation of the family group improves and the beneficiary becomes part of the richest 10% of Chile’s population, he or she automatically stops complying with the targeting requirement, losing the right to receive the pension.
From the IPS they indicate that, in case of suspension or rejection, users have the option to file a claim within 5 business days (Monday to Friday) from receiving the notification. This gives room to defend the right to a pension if it is considered that there was an administrative error.
Compliance with these regulations is the only guarantee to ensure the continuity of this fundamental economic complement. Being informed about the causes of loss is as crucial as having applied for the pension.
