Border workers, a situation that is not new in Cerro Largo
The Mayor who requested a session as a General Commission to address the problem of border workers, an initiative that was supported by the entire legislature, explained the reasons that led him to make the proposal.

He based his presentation on the lack of genuine sources of work, which often leads to people having to engage in smuggling in order to survive with their families.
“When we made this request, we made it clear that this was a problem that has been going on for many years, that it is not a new issue, that is why we did not want it to be done from a political attack perspective” clarified Maximilian Abraham.
“We have seen how, being from different Parties, our legislators have been working together on various department issues and I think that is a message that society needs today. We will have time for political discussions, for each one to mark their position when the time of the electoral campaign arrives, when certain issues are discussed, but there are issues that require unity and I think you have made that clear.” He said addressing Botana, Araujo and Gamarra.
“This proposal arose as a result of some interventions that have been made by Customs or by visits from Salto. We are also aware that many of these interventions are due to complaints, we are aware that many of these interventions are against large smugglers, which seems perfect to us that they be attacked.” accurate.
“It is not that we are in favor of smuggling, but I hope that one day all the people who today depend on that little money they make to be able to put on the table can have a formal job, I wish Cerro Largo were a department that led the ranking with formal jobs that allow security and solvency for families and we did not have to be dealing with these issues” said the Mayor of the National Party.
“It hurts me when I put on a Montevideo Channel and the Melenses are treated in a note as criminals because they sell fuel or other things. Unfortunately they do not visit the fairs in Montevideo where they will find the same products or they do not visit Chuy where they will see many Montevideo license plates that will also make the assortment there” I lament Abraham.
