Next year 2026 the mandate of José Ignacio Paliza in the presidency of PRM and his successor should be, according to his aspiration, Luis Abinader.
Paliza has promoted this idea for the past few years. He said that he has discussed it with the President of the Republic, but he hasn’t made the decisionalthough he does not rule it out either. “I understand that he should be president of the party (…) It is a conversation that will have to conclude in the coming months,” he declared.
He defined Abinader as the leader with the strongest and most decisive leadership to maintain the party unity and encourage maturity in leadership so that PRM cohesion.

As for the independent candidaciesPaliza believes that the parties should focus on approving the bill drafted by the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to regulate them.
However, the commission of deputies studying the piece publicly refused to discuss the issue and challenged the recommendation of the Constitutional Court to legislate in this regard, which leaves independent candidates the opportunity to participate with minimum requirements and complicates the organization of the 2028 elections.
“I know that the PRM has a majority in the National Congress, but it is an issue that we have to handle with care and with, let’s say, elegance, because we cannot legislate in such a way that it is understood that we are doing it to take care of the interests of the parties,” he expressed.
The official considered that the outside candidates Parties can coexist with them, but they must be regulated so that they do not generate unwanted effects.
“The parties have to make a commitment to facilitate the issue to the Central Electoral Board. The party leadership also has to do its homework in building the congressional dynamics so that we can help the Board,” he indicated.
