Trump reiterates that “he is open to talking to Maduro”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, reiterated this Tuesday that he is willing to talk with President Nicolás Maduroafter he also expressed his openness to dialogue.

“He (Maduro) wants to talk. I am open to talking to him. I talk to everyone,” Trump declared from the White House, in response to questions from journalists, international media reported.

Dialogue Vs Threats

Trump slipped that he could hold talks with Caracas, although he did not rule out a ground operation on Venezuelan soil.

At the same time, he insisted on accusations about alleged drug shipments and prison population from Venezuela to the United States, statements that have not been supported by international organizations.

For his part, Maduro defended diplomacy as the only way to resolve differences between sovereign countries and stressed that Venezuela maintains an invariable position of respect for international law.

“Whoever wants to talk will always find in us people of good faith, decent and with experience to lead Venezuela. In the US, whoever wants to talk to Venezuela, we will talk.”face to face‘, face to face, without any problem,” he stated in his program With Maduro+.

Attacks and military deployment

Since August, the United States has deployed a significant military force off the Venezuelan coast, with warships, submarines and combat aircraft, justifying the actions as part of the fight against drug trafficking.

These operations have left at least 80 dead, which has generated complaints from Caracas about attempts at “regime change” and appropriation of the country’s oil wealth.

Venezuela’s position has received support from allies such as Russia, whose Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described Washington’s actions as “unacceptable” and warned that they will not improve its international reputation.

In parallel, organizations such as the UN and the DEA have indicated that more than 80% of the narcotics that arrive in the United States use the Pacific route, ruling out that Venezuela is a hot spot in drug production or trafficking.
