The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, published on his social networks a statement from the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), where the international organization demands the withdrawal of United States (US) military forces in the Caribbean.
“The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which brings together 121 UN Member States and represents the largest political organization in the Global South, warned about the dangerous military escalation in the Caribbean, denouncing the growing presence of extra-regional forces and warning that any aggression against Venezuela or any country in the region could overwhelm the peace of all of Latin America and the Caribbean,” Gil wrote on his Telegran channel, accompanied by the statement.
Likewise, the Venezuelan diplomat indicated that the international organization “demands to stop provocative statements and stop hostile actions, including recent attacks against fishing boats. Reaffirms its commitment to Latin America and the Caribbean as a Nuclear Weapons Free Zone and Zone of Peace, and remembers that the UN Charter prohibits the use or threat of force. “The Movement demands the withdrawal of extra-regional military assets to preserve regional and international stability.”
Likewise, in the statement the NAM reaffirms its commitment to respect for the sovereignty of the people, as well as the political independence of the States. It also rejects the use of force or intimidation exercised against freely constituted Governments.
“The Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) reiterates its firm commitment to sovereign equality, territorial integrity and political independence of all States, and emphasizes that the threat of the use of force, intimidation or coercive interference in the internal affairs of States are contrary to the letter and spirit of the Charter of the United Nations, while emphasizing that military solutions are not an option,” the text concludes.
