Lawyer organizations undertake defense of Generation Z detainees

He stated that he was aware of a case of beating of a young man who was not even in the mobilization.

“His response in the Zócalo is one thing and another is to start chasing and terrorizing citizens in the streets to ‘clean’ the first square. This is the description of when they arrested him. He was not even in the march, but a few blocks away, and they beat him among 8 police officers,” he said.

“We condemn all forms of repression against young people who exercise their right to demonstrate. The law must protect, not intimidate,” he said.

They condemned the acts of violence and repression by government authorities against young people who, exercising their fundamental rights, marched to demand peace, security and a country free of fear.

“We reject any narrative that seeks to criminalize those who legitimately demand a safer Mexico. The state is obliged to protect, not repress,” he stated.

He also expressed his “solidarity with the injured young men and women, their families and those who have been violated in their physical and emotional integrity.”
