Caixa begins releasing recharge vouchers for the Gás do Povo Program

Around 1 million families can refill their gas cylinders for free at accredited retailers in ten capitals. THE Caixa Econômica Federal begins distributing the recharge voucher for the Gás do Povo Programwhich will replace Gas Aid.

The benefit will be available in the following capitals: Salvador, Fortaleza, Goiânia, Belo Horizonte, Belém, Recife, Teresina, Natal, Porto Alegre and São Paulo.

How gas removal will work

Recharging will be done directly at the reseller, without intermediaries. At the time of withdrawal, the person responsible for the family will be able to validate the benefit using:

• Bolsa Família chip card + password;
• CAIXA account debit card + password;
• CPF and validation code sent to the registered cell phone.

Verification occurs through an electronic system installed at resellers that voluntarily joined the program.

Who is entitled to the benefit

Those covered by the Gás do Povo Program are chosen by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance (MDS). Among the criteria are:

• Registration in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico);
• Per capita income of up to half the minimum wage;
• Registration updated for at least 24 months;
• Priority for families that already receive Bolsa Família.

About the program

People’s Gas is the federal government’s new public policy to expand access to cooking gas in the country. It will gradually replace Gas Aid.

The program provides free refilling of 13 kilogram (kg) cylinders at accredited resellers. The goal is to benefit up to 15 million families by March 2026 — around 50 million people — in transition from the previous model.

Since October 23rd, interested resellers can join the program. Companies must be registered with the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), be in good standing with the Federal Revenue Service, have a legal entity account with Caixa and accept payments via the “azulzinha”, the bank’s card machine.
